Moving Day

Today is the day. We are going to tidy up Matt's old studio and I'm going to pack up my old studio and we are going to switch. I figure that my new studio space is about 2 1/2 times the size of my old one. Once all my bits are tidily crowded into the middle of the new space it will be time to do the finish work. Drywall, wood ceiling bits, painting, electrical, the plan is to get this all done in the next week. Should be busy but fun. I have finished my new logo design and decided on the final glaze colours that I will use for this first year. I will order my rubber logo stamps this week. I have been messing around with forms and will concentrate on choosing those once the studio is up and running. First, however I am going to make a pot of coffee and enjoy the early morning sunshine and cool weather. We are supposed to hit 35 again today with no end in sight. I am NOT complaining.

The details

Yesterday I made a detailed list of all the things I need to purchase and all the things I need to do before I open the gallery doors on November 2nd. Pretty overwhelming, only 3 1/2 short months during which I work full-time to get it all ready. So being the highly organized woman that I am, I made a chart and filled the calendar. Now each week I have a list of things that must get completed. Last night was business cards. Gin and tonic in hand, Matt and I created a lovely card on the Vista Print website, we proofread it about 6 million times and all looked great. I signed off and sent it off into the ether. About 30 seconds later I thought...hmmm when I registered for my domain I wanted .com, did I get it, or did I get .ca. SHIT! I checked and guess what? .ca. So...at this point you just have to laugh. 1000 business cards on their way with the wrong domain address. I am sure there will be more mistakes to come, I'll keep you posted.

Bats

This is the lovely new yellow for the house. We have painted the back wall so far, no trim done yet. The very next day we noticed that two brown bats had taken up residence. They must be attracted to the heat from the new colour. They are great mosquito eaters so we love them.

This silly bat has chosen to live on the lower half of the house near curious children and my ferocious house cat. I am worried about him, so tonight we are building a bat house for them in the hopes that they move to a safer place.

Close up of the very cute but oddly placed critter.

Beautiful Things

I like to buy art and jewelry. Not a lot of money in the savings account but I have some nice stuff in my home.

This is my newest jewelry aquisition. I love silver and turquoise and the bigger, the better. My friend Judy Malone is a local silversmith, she didn't make this piece but she often finds fabulous pieces on her travels and fixes them up. Lucky me!

Here is an oil painting that I just bought from friends Nelli Tobler and David Lowe. Nelli is from Switzerland and her partner David is from the coast. My girls and I fell in love with the arbutus and ocean view. We all agreed that this was the ONE. Thank goodness friends trade and take payment installments.
